This is a three chord song I wrote in 1993 when I was 16 years old, and recorded this solo guitar and vocal version in 2014 on my laptop. Not top quality, but I thought still a decent rendition of a song meant for full band.
Lament for Dead Blackbird
I never thought I’d say goodbye, I tried to eat away the infection inside - but it didn’t work. So the petals cried all their tears, And the wind it sighed through breaths so cold, And my love it died because no one cared, I knew I would never see it again. Out in the cold of a blizzard I saw a hole within your heart, Out in the cold I saw a blackbird With a hole in its head – blood was dripping out. So the petals cried all their tears, And the wind it sighed through breaths so cold, And my love it died because no one cared, I knew I would never see it again. So I tried to carry on, Without a guide how could I? But I took it upon to judge for myself, Because no one dared to look inside This cold, cold heart of mine – so I shot them all. So the petals cried all their tears, And the wind it sighed through breaths so cold, And my love it died because no one cared, I knew I would never see it again. So I tried to carry on, Without a guide how could I? (And I used my gun, now all my friends are dead.)
